The vast majority of baking powders commercially available are not Paleo friendly. Common ingredients in store bought baking powders are; cornstarch, even in “gluten-free”, aluminum ( (i.e. sodium aluminum sulfate, sodium aluminum phosphate, etc). It’s more convenient, faster, cheaper and healthier to prepare your own. All you need to do is add an acidic ingredient to your baking soda. Below are a few good examples of different acidic ingredient you can use that are Paleo friendly.
Mix 1 part baking soda to 2 parts cream of tartar in a bowl and use immediately.
To make 1 tablespoon of baking powder, mix together 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
To make 1 teaspoon of baking powder, mix together 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda with 1/2 teaspoon of cream of tartar
To make one teaspoon of baking powder, mix together the following ingredients and use immediately:
1/4 teaspoon baking soda with 1.5 teaspoons vinegar or lemon juice.
1/4 teaspoon baking soda with 1/4 cup of molasses.(Organic)by
