When it comes to BBQ sauces everyone has their own personal taste. It is very difficult to please everyone with one type of bbq sauce, and hard to say that one say is better over another. With the huge variety of processed store bought bbq sauce ranging from spicy to sweet, I find this recipe to be somewhere nicely placed in the middle. It has a wonderfully smoky flavour with the hint of sweetness and tart from the apple juice. The only way to know if you are going to enjoy this sauce is to try it and adjust according to you taste on the next batch. Great for red meats, poultry, and in certain types of sandwiches.
3/4 cup or 7oz paleo tomato paste
1 cup apple juice, natural no added sugar or other ingredients
1 tbsp chili powder
1 tbsp hickory smoke spice
1 tsp pepper
1 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper, add more for more kick
- Place all ingredients in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat and stir to combine. Taste and adjust seasoning to your liking. Bring just to a boil.
- Reduce heat to low and allow to simmer for 1 hour or until thickened to your liking.
