It is quite easy to fall back in to buy processed canned products, that you would think are Paleo Diet Friendly. This is not the case with a lot of canned products. Like the Paleo recipes below, you can make your very own tomato paste and tomato puree and not have to worry about additives. As with most recipes like Paleo tomato paste and paleo tomato puree you can always add in addition spice that suit you taste buds.


 

Paleo Tomato Puree
Ingredients:
4 pounds of tomatoes, whole
Optional: sea salt and fresh ground pepper to taste
Optional: Other spices of choice to taste

Directions:

  1. To make the purée, dip tomatoes in boiling water for a few minutes, drain and slip off the skins. Blend the skinned tomatoes in a food processor.
  2. Sieve to remove the seed.
  3. Pour the puree in to a pot on the stove, simmer the puree until you have the desired consistency.
    This time can vary depending on the type of tomato you are using. The time frame can range from 30 minutes to 1 hour.
  4. Remove the lid after the first 20 minutes to allow the puree to cook down. Heat until desired consistency.

 

Paleo Tomato Paste
Ingredients:
12 cups tomato puree
6 tablespoons olive oil
Optional: sea salt and fresh ground pepper to taste
Optional: Other spices of choice to taste

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 300 F.
  2. Spread 2 tablespoons olive oil on three rimmed baking sheets. Pour 4 cups of tomato puree into each pan.
  3. Bake, using a spatula to turn the puree over on itself occasionally, until most of the water evaporates and the surface darkens, about 3 hours.
  4. Combine the tomato paste onto one baking sheet; reduce heat to 200 F and cook until thick and brick colored, about 20 minutes.
  5. Cool and divide leftovers into two ice trays; freeze. Store in the freezer in a zip lock plastic bag.
